In your experience, how has Petworth changed over time? It has changed. There are a lot more people than when I was growing up. I see more people. I see, I have not seen as many people at the football games, but it still remains a family community. Were you originally born and raised in Petworth? Yes, mmm-hmm.

Have any things been lost or gained as a result of the changes in the neighborhood? I think there was more of a family connection. You know, we all knew our neighbors. Our football team was winning the championships. We went to church together and we all walked to school. I don't see as many children in the neighborhood, but that's okay. Do you think anything has been gained through these changes? I see more development with restaurants and the Yes Grocery Store, so that's good too.

What places in Petworth make you feel connected to the community? I like the parks and I like Roosevelt High School with the football team. Any specific parks that you like? Parks right there, Sherman Circle and Grant Circle.

Do you have any favorite memories of the neighborhood? Being able to walk to school, playing outside. We played and just went into neighbors' homes, and that was the best thing about the neighborhood. And what would you envision or hope for for this neighborhood five years, ten years, just going forward into the future? I hope it's going to progress as it has with more stores and independent businesses and family activity.

Are there any additional observations or stories you'd like to share? We had the running football team in 1976, went to RFK, being able to go to the stadium, being able to walk everywhere. When I was little, the Metro was not around, so we took DC Transit. We had a lot of field trips, being able to go to the museums here. They were all free, movies, plays at the Kennedy Center.
