Rachel Prout (1802-1865) lived just outside Washington, D.C. during the Civil War. This collection consists of three letters Prout wrote to her sister living in New York. In her letters, Prout discusses the welfare of family members living in the South, as well as her own declining health. Prout is buried in Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
