All University Archives
On July 13, 1943 The American University Courier was established by action of the Board of Trustees due to WWII. This “new” all-University newspaper, published by the University, continued the publication previously titled, Courier established in 1892, and The Eagle established in 1925. The business and editorial management of the Courier was administered by the University Publications Board, composed of representatives of the students and the faculties of the College of Arts and Sciences and of the School of Social Sciences and Public Affairs with the assistance of advisers. The work was coordinated with classes taught by Dean Woods in journalism, by Dr. James R. Mock in technique of journalism, by President Paul F. Douglass in writing for publication, and by Dr. Merritt C. Batchelder in creative writing. Student editors issued the Courier. The Eagle published several "Campus Editions" in spring of 1944 as a companion to American University Courier. American University Courier ceased publication in fall 1944 and The Eagle resumed publication by fall 1944.
