Humanities Truck Community Archive

On July 21, 2024, the Humanities Truck attended the African Drum Circle in Malcolm X Park in Washington, D.C. The Truck showcased Nancy Shia’s exhibit of photographs titled “Liberation Drumming," which highlights the history of the African drum circle. Director Dan Kerr, alongside community fellow Angie Whitehurst invited people to color in prompt cards with different African drums on them. Oral history interviews were also conducted. Community members discussed what Malcolm X Park and the African drum circle meant to them. This digital collection includes video oral history interviews and interview transcripts, prompt cards showing African drums, and photographs of the event and exhibit.
