Humanities Truck Community Archive
As part of the the Humanities Truck's Mobilizing Memories: Share Your Story efforts, Truck volunteers conducted short video interviews with community members who shared their memories of the park. This project was part of a related National Park Service project, the "Meridian Hill National Historic Park Oral History Project," that aimed to collect oral histories about Malcolm X / Meridian Hill Park.
Narrators shared the symbolic and spiritual meanings of the park in their own lives and histories, with many noting the importance of protests in the park and the present-day weekly drum circle. These oral histories were conducted in 2019, the same year as the "Malcolm X Park: Celebrating 50 Years" Humanities Truck exhibition and event. This collection includes video recordings and transcripts for 14 oral history interviews conducted between September and December 2019 in addition to photographs of some oral history interview participants.
