Humanities Truck Community Archive
On May 18, 2024, the Humanities Truck attended Africa on the Avenue 2024 at Bruce Monroe Community Park in Columbia Heights. The Truck team’s project for this event was entitled “African Diasporas of the DMV.” Director Dan Kerr, graduate fellows Daiki Tsumagari and Inaya Rivera, and community fellow Angie Whitehurst invited attendees to share their stories and memories of Africa, the African Diaspora in the DMV, and Columbia Heights by writing or drawing on prompt cards. Given the inclement weather and heavy rain, the team was able to focus primarily on inviting numerous people to share their oral histories, giving Truck staff and attendees a short break from the wet weather. This collection includes recordings of oral history interviews conducted at the event.
